Prayers for guidance and strength/prayer for strength during difficult times/How do you pray for strength and guidance?

Our heavenly Father,

Today, we come to you looking to your word, the Bible, for support and direction. We pray that you will use your word to lead us and give us the courage we need to face life’s obstacles because we believe that it will be a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path.

We are aware of your omnipotence, total control, and direction over all things as well as your purpose for our life. Despite the fact that we may not fully comprehend what is going on around us, please help us to have faith in your goodness and wisdom. Give us the confidence to rely on your direction and to follow it wherever it may lead.

We ask that you speak to us through your word and grant us the knowledge and wisdom we require to put it into practice in our daily lives. Help us to reflect on your truth and follow your rules as we go about our daily lives.

We ask for the courage to resist temptation and remain steadfast in our faith. Help us to put our faith in your unwavering love and grace and to find solace and hope in your promises.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior, we pray.

Amen.

Strength and guidance in the Biblical context

In the Bible, strength is often understood as the ability to endure or overcome challenges, temptations, difficulties, or adversity, which could be in the physical or spiritual realm.

There is Encouragement and Reassurance in the Bible
There is Encouragement and Reassurance in the Bible

When it refers to physical strength, then the ability to carry out physical tasks or endure physical suffering is being addressed. In such an instance, you see or feel the difficulty in your body.

When it refers to spiritual or emotional strength, then the ability to persevere through such difficult times or maintain faith in God is referenced. This type is felt by the sufferer in the spirit but transcends to the body.

As Christians, to overcome any challenge, the responsible thing to do is to allow God to take charge. In the Bible, we have many passages that encourage believers to trust in God’s strength and to seek his help in times of need.

For example:

Psalm 46:1-3 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.”
