» Saturday, 21st January 2023 | I Stand In The Gap Daily Devotional | Walking in Godly Consciousness as God’s Masterpiece

Yesterday’s daily devotional theme was “Persistence Breaks Resistance” and today’s is about “walking in Godly consciousness as His masterpiece”.

Verse for the day:

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Ephesians 2:10

Our anchor verse of Ephesians 2:10 for today’s devotional reminds us that as believers in Jesus Christ, we are God’s masterpiece, created anew in Him. This gives us a new identity in Christ, thence not defined by our past mistakes, but rather, we are defined by the righteousness of Jesus and His finished work of salvation. Therefore, we’re to walk in the consciousness of who we are in God, and to live out our purpose and calling as His children.

Simply put, don’t belittle yourself!

Background to Ephesians 2:10

The book of Ephesians is a direct letter written by the apostle Paul, likely while in prison around AD 60-62, to the early Christian community in Ephesus, a city in present-day Turkey.

The book of Ephesians focuses on the unity of the body of Christ, and the importance of living a life worthy of the calling we have received. It also emphasizes the believer’s new identity in Christ and the blessings that come with it.

In Ephesians 2:10, Paul is encouraging the believers to walk in their new identity and to understand the blessings that come with it, so they can live their lives in a way that is worthy of the calling they have received.

Themes in Ephesians 2:10

  • A new identity in Christ: By becoming a Believer, you become the masterpiece of God, hence created anew.
  • God’s plan and purpose: We’re to walk in the consciousness of God because of God’s specific plan and purpose for our lives.
  • Righteousness and salvation: Since we have been created anew, our sinful nature does not define us, but only the righteousness of Jesus and the work of salvation in us.
  • Unity and community: Our new identity ushers us into the body of Christ and we are called to live in unity and to build community with one another.
  • Grace and blessings: With our new identity, is bestowed on us God’s grace and blessings.

This verse is similar to Ephesians 2:10 in that it also emphasizes the believer’s new identity in Christ. It states that anyone who is in Christ is a new creation and that the old has gone and the new has come.

This verse emphasizes the transformative power of faith in Jesus, and the fact that our old selves have been crucified with Christ, we have been given a new identity in Him.

For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Colossians 3:3

This verse also emphasizes the believer’s new identity in Christ and the change that happens in our lives when we come to faith in Jesus. It states that we have died to our old selves and that our lives are now hidden with Christ in God.

This means that our lives are now hidden and secure in God and that we are no longer defined by our past or our mistakes, but by our new identity in Christ.

This verse also emphasizes the security and safety of being in Christ and the blessings that come with it.

Reflection on the verse for the current Christian

For Christians today, Ephesians 2:10 serves as a powerful reminder of our new identity in Christ and the blessings that come with it. It reminds us that through faith in Jesus, we have been made alive and that we are no longer defined by our past or our mistakes.

Instead, we are defined by the righteousness of Jesus and the work of salvation He has done in our lives. That is why you’re God’s masterpiece and should be walking in Godly consciousness.

  • The verse encourages us to walk in the consciousness of who we are in God, and to live out our purpose and calling as His children.
  • It reminds us that God has a specific plan and purpose for our lives and that we are empowered to do the good things that He has planned for us.
  • We are called to live our lives in a way that is worthy of the calling we have received.

In the current Christian dispensation, our anchor verse is especially important as it reminds us that we are not alone in our walk with God. We are part of the body of Christ and we are called to live in unity and to build community with one another.

It also reminds us that we are saved by grace and that it’s not of our own effort but through the work of Christ on the cross.

As we reflect on this verse, it is important for us to understand that we are God’s masterpiece, created anew in Christ Jesus, and blessed with a new identity, purpose, and blessings as God’s children.

Dear Believer, reflect on the above and position yourself as God’s masterpiece who is walking in Godly Consciousness
