No one is immune to tough times. We all face challenges and difficulties that can leave us feeling overwhelmed and alone. But there is hope.

In seeking the peace and comfort of God in your times of trouble, you’ll find strength and peace in the midst of your storm.

» Saturday, 7th January 2023 | I Stand In The Gap Daily Devotional | Peace and Comfort of God in Times of Trouble

Yesterday, we shared on the theme of “in the presence and protection of God!”

The daily devotional verse of today is about peace and comfort in times of trouble. It says:

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

John 14:27

Here, Jesus is speaking to his disciples, and giving them assurance that he is leaving them a gift of peace, which will help them not be troubled or afraid, even when facing difficulties. By extension, He is referring to us!

Jesus’ peace is different from the peace that the world offers, because it is a peace that comes from God, not man, and it lasts forever.

Reflection on the peace and comfort of God:

John 14:27 reminds us that even when we are facing difficult circumstances or are feeling anxious or afraid, we can find peace in God. Jesus says that he is leaving us his peace and that it is a peace that is different from the peace the world offers.

This peace, since it comes from God and lasts forever, is something that we can hold onto in times of trouble to help us feel calm and reassured.

Let’s cast our minds back to one of the main themes in the Bible, which is that God is a source of strength and comfort for his people. He is always with us, and he wants to help us find peace in him, no matter what we are going through.

So when we are feeling troubled or afraid, we can turn to God and trust in him to give us the peace and comfort we need.

It is a reminder that we are never alone, and that God is always with us to help us through any challenges we may face.

Bible Verses on Peace and Comfort:

Here are three verses that are similar to John 14:27 in theme:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:6-7

If you’re troubled, don’t dwell on it but hit God in prayer, tell Him your worries, give thanks, and He’ll respond.

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you.”

Isaiah 26:3

Trusting in God is a sure way to find everlasting peace of mind.

“The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.”

Psalm 29:11

Surely, it’s only God who can lead us to peace.

I don’t know the specifics of your troubles, but I know our God is a wonderful one who, when we lift our voices in prayer to Him, pouring our hearts out, He descends in His Majesty and acts wonderfully. Rest in His assurances, beloved!

Let’s Pray for the peace and comfort of God

Our Heavenly Father,

We come to you today seeking peace and comfort in any troubled circumstances we face. We know that you are with us always and that you have promised to never leave us or forsake us.

As we face the challenges and difficulties of this day, we turn to your Word for strength and guidance. Your Word tells us that you are the Prince of Peace and that you have given us your peace, not as the world gives, but as a gift from above.

We pray that you would fill our hearts with your peace today; and that you would help us to trust in your goodness and your plans for our lives. We pray that you would give us the courage to face whatever comes our way, and the grace to walk in your love and your truth, and the confidence to scale every obstacle.

We pray for those around us, and our loved ones to have this same peace and comfort. Holy Spirit of God, settle in our minds and take control!

We ask all of these things in the Mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
