Everything born of this world eventually fades. Human strength, achievements, even life itself, all spring from a perishable source and return to dust. If that were the whole story, our lives would be as fragile as grass.

But Peter announces something astonishing about the believer. You have been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible. You were born of imperishable seed, through the living, eternal Word of God.

Let’s consider the vision God gave Ezekiel about a vast valley full of dry, lifeless bones. There was no life there at all, only death and hopelessness.

But God told Ezekiel to prophesy, to speak God’s word over the bones. And as he spoke, the bones came together, flesh grew, breath entered them, and they stood up, a vast living army.

Life came out of death through the word of God. That is a picture of your new birth. You were spiritually dead, but the living Word breathed new, imperishable life into you. That is what it means to be born of imperishable seed.

James 1:18 says it plainly: of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth. You did not manufacture your new life. God spoke it into being.

So rest in the security of it. You have experienced the new birth in Christ, given life through the living Word, and granted everlasting life that cannot fade.

Born of imperishable seed, you belong to God forever, and nothing in this fading world can undo what His eternal Word has made.
