» Sunday, 5th March 2023 | I Stand In The Gap Daily Devotional | The Unsearchable Riches of Christ

Yesterday, we shared “Supremacy of Christ and His Church“, and today’s is about “The Unsearchable Riches of Christ.”

Anchor verse of the day

To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ.

Ephesians 3:8 (NKJV)

The anchor verse implies that believers have access to Christ’s limitless and incomprehensible riches. In addition to the monetary richness, these riches also contain spiritual advantages like salvation, forgiveness, grace, love, and eternal life. But, by their faith in Christ, believers can share in and gain from these riches.

Themes in Ephesians 3:8

  • Grace: Paul’s conversion and subsequent ministry were entirely a result of God’s grace and mercy.
  • Humility: Paul recognizes that he is a servant of Christ and that his role is to proclaim the truth of the Gospel to all people.
  • Mystery: The mystery of God’s plan for salvation through Christ has been revealed to Paul, and he is eager to share it with others.
  • Christocentricity: The focus of Paul’s message is on the person and work of Christ. Christ is the center of his ministry, and he recognizes that everything he does must be for the glory of Christ.
  • Evangelism: Paul is committed to making the Gospel known to all people, and he encourages believers to share the good news of Christ with those around them.

Background to Ephesians 3:8

The Apostle Paul discusses his mandate as a preacher of the Gospel to the Gentiles in Ephesians 3:8.

This verse’s context can be found in Acts 9:15–16, where God informs Ananias of Paul’s impending mission:

“Go, for he is one of my appointed servants to represent me before the nations, the kings, and the children of Israel. I’ll demonstrate to him just how much he must endure for the glory of my name.”

On the journey to Damascus, Paul, a former church persecutor had a profound encounter with the risen Christ. He committed his life to evangelize both Jews and Gentiles after becoming a Christian, and in doing so, he experienced great persecution and hardship.

The verse highlights Paul’s important calling and the enormous responsibility that went along with it.

Similar bible verses

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!

Romans 11:33 (NKJV)

It expresses how limitless and incomprehensible God’s treasures and wisdom are. It emphasizes the limitless and incomprehensible nature of God by acknowledging that God’s ways and judgments are beyond our comprehension.

that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Colossians 2:2-3 (NKJV)

In this verse, it is clear that Christ is full of wisdom and knowledge. It emphasizes that genuine knowledge and understanding originate in Christ and that we can fully secure this knowledge via love and togetherness. It discusses the breadth and depth of God’s mysteries and wisdom found in Christ, just like Ephesians 3:8.

How is the Christian to live?

Based on Ephesians 3:8 and the title of “The Unsearchable Treasures of Christ,” a Christian should conduct his or her life mindful of the immense wealth that is made possible by one’s faith in Christ.

We ought to make an effort to strengthen our relationship with Christ and comprehend the boundless character of His mercy, grace, and love.

When the Christian attempts to spread the riches of Christ among those near, this knowledge ought to inspire a life of modesty, appreciation, and charity toward others.

Additionally, the Believer must understand that these riches are not just for our own benefit, but also for the glory of God and the expansion of His kingdom.

Reflection

The treasures of Christ are unsearchable, according to Ephesians 3:8. The term “unsearchable riches” denotes the immeasurable and unbounded nature of the advantages we get from Him. We will never be able to fully grasp how deeply He loves us.

We have access to Christ’s riches as Christians, which should fill us with joy and give us faith in our relationship with Him.

We can be reminded of this by thinking about the title, which urges us to put Him and His riches first. We should aim to store up treasures in heaven rather than pursue material possessions through dubious means, which will eventually pass away. Through doing this, we shall encounter the depth of His love and find our fulfillment in Him alone.

We must keep in mind that Christ’s riches extend beyond our own interests. To help others experience the unfathomable riches of Christ, we are invited to spread His love and grace. Our mission is to spread the message of the Gospel to everyone in this world by serving as His hands and feet.

In conclusion, let us seek after Him with all of our hearts, extend His love and grace to others, and find our satisfaction in Him alone as we consider the unsearchable riches of Christ.

Let us pray

Dear Father,

Thank you for the immeasurable riches that we have in you via Christ. As we develop in faith, enlighten us to seek and find more of these riches each day.

May we delve deeper into the depths of your love and be transformed by it rather than being satisfied with only the surface-level grasp of your love and grace.

We beg you to open our hearts’ eyes so we can see the hope to which you have called us, the richness of your magnificent inheritance in the saints, and your immeasurable vast power for those of us who believe.

We give our life to you, Lord, and beg that you fill us with your untold riches so that we might show the world your love and glory.

Help us to approach each day with a fresh feeling of mission and purpose, knowing that Christ has given us access to all spiritual blessings.

May we spread these blessings to others and help them come to understand your love and salvation.

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray.

Amen.
