In Genesis 18, Abraham receives three visitors. They explain that Sarah, who is old and had been barren, would give birth to a son within a year.
When Sarah overhears this, she chuckles to herself in shock since she and Abraham believe they are too old to have children. In response, God queries Abraham as to the cause of Sarah’s laughter and reiterates His assurance that she will bear a son.
In response to Abraham, God declares His authority and reaffirms that nothing is impossible for Him.

Reflection on “Triumphing Over Doubt” for the believer
We all have periods of confusion and doubt as believers. We could question God’s word or His purpose for our lives.
Genesis 18:14, however, serves as a reminder that God’s promises are unstoppable and that He is always dependable to keep them, even when they appear to be unattainable to us. This should reassure us that, despite our doubts, we may put our faith in God’s strength and sovereignty.
We must hold firm to our faith and cling to God’s promises if we want to overcome doubt. We must keep in mind the occasions when God has delivered for us in the past and have faith that He will do so once again in the future.
We must also enlist the aid of the Christian community, who can cheer us on and pray for us when we are struggling.
Above all, we must ask God to increase our faith and give us more confidence in Him. By doing this, we can see the fulfillment of God’s promises in our lives and dispel doubt by remembering that nothing is insurmountable for our God.

- Pray for increased faith: Ask God to strengthen your faith and enable you to have more complete trust in Him. Ask Him to give you courage when you’re feeling frail or uncertain and to remind you of His promises and faithfulness.
- Pray for renewed confidence: Ask God to restore your faith in His omnipotence and sovereignty. Ask God to help you overcome your doubts and worries so that you can believe that He is in charge despite the overwhelming circumstances.
- Pray for discernment: Ask God to give you wisdom so you can spot when doubt starts to creep in and so you can determine where it is coming from. Ask Him to expose any lies or erroneous notions that may be leading you to doubt yourself and to replace them with His truth.

Dear God,
We approach You today with hearts rife with uncertainty and mistrust. Even though we are aware that You are the God who is able to accomplish the seemingly impossible, there are moments when we find it difficult to accept this.
We ask that You strengthen our ability to fully rely on You, believe in Your word, and have faith in Your authority. We ask that You assist us overcome any doubts or worries that might be preventing us from moving forward by giving us strength when we are weak.
We are grateful for Your mercy and grace as well as the victory we have in You. We pray in Jesus’ mighty name.
