To seek first His Kingdom is the most important instruction Jesus gave us about how to live each day. Every morning when you wake up, you face many choices about what to do with your time, energy, and thoughts. Work demands your attention, family needs pile up, bills must be paid, and problems seem endless.

But Jesus shows us a better way to live. When we put God’s kingdom at the top of our list, everything else finds its proper place.

Today, I want you to understand how to make God your priority and see how He takes care of everything else.

Seek First His Kingdom: Key Takeaway

  • Seek First His Kingdom: Put God and His ways first in your life, and trust Him to provide everything else you need.

Anchor Bible Verse of the day

Jesus spoke these words in Matthew 6:33 during the Sermon on the Mount when He was teaching His followers about worry and priorities. Many people in the crowd were poor and anxious about basic needs like food and clothing. They spent most of their energy thinking about survival.

Jesus wanted to free them from this constant worry. He taught them that God knows their needs and will take care of them. The key is to make God’s kingdom and His righteousness their top concern. When they do this, God promises to provide everything they truly need.

Key Explanations

  • Seek first: To actively pursue and make something your highest priority before anything else. It requires daily decisions to choose God above everything.
  • The kingdom of God: God’s rule and authority in your life and in the world. It means living under His leadership and following His plans and purposes.
  • His righteousness: God’s way of living that is right, holy, and good. It includes obeying His commands and reflecting His character in your daily actions.
  • All these things shall be added: God promises to provide the basic necessities of life (food, clothing, shelter) when you prioritize His kingdom first.

Seek First His Kingdom: A Reflection

Living with the right priorities changes everything about how you approach each day, hence the need to seek first His kingdom.

When you seek first His kingdom, you stop worrying about tomorrow and start trusting God with today. This does not mean you become lazy or stop working. It means you understand that God is bigger than your problems and faithful to His promises.

I’d like you to consider your morning routine. What thoughts fill your mind when you wake up? Are you immediately worried about money, work deadlines, health issues, or relationship problems?

These concerns are real, but Jesus calls us to a different starting point. Before considering your own needs, think about God’s kingdom. Before you plan your day, ask God what He wants you to do.

The Bible teaches us in Proverbs 3:5-6 to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and not lean on our own understanding. When we acknowledge Him in all our ways, He directs our paths.

This verse perfectly supports the idea of seeking first His kingdom. We cannot manage our lives better than God can, so we must let Him lead.

Consider the story of King Solomon in the Bible. When God asked him what he wanted, Solomon could have asked for wealth, long life, or victory over enemies. Instead, Solomon asked for wisdom to lead God’s people well.

And see, because Solomon sought God’s kingdom first, God gave him wisdom and also added wealth, honor, and peace.

Solomon’s choice shows us what happens when we prioritize God’s purposes over our personal desires.

To seek first His kingdom today means reading God’s Word before anything else. It means praying about your decisions before making plans. It means asking God how to use your money, time, and talents for His glory.

When you live this way, you discover that God truly provides. You may not get everything you want, but you will receive everything you need. Your anxiety decreases because you trust God’s timing and provision.

Many believers struggle with this teaching because they think seeking God’s kingdom means ignoring practical responsibilities. But that is not what Jesus taught. He wants you to work hard, care for your family, and handle your duties.

Beloved, the difference is in your attitude and priority. Do these things while keeping God first, not making these things your god.

Living with eternal priorities frees you from the trap of materialism and worry. When you seek first His kingdom, you value people over possessions, character over comfort, and obedience over convenience.

You find that God’s blessings often come in unexpected ways: through peace, joy, relationships, and spiritual growth rather than just material abundance.

Trusting God completely becomes easier when you make His kingdom your priority, and you will discover that He hears every prayer you offer as you seek Him first.
